Fierce Frosinone relegate Salernitana
Frosinone’s Stadio Benito Stirpe hosted the relegation battle between the home side and relegation threatened Salernitana who were on the verge of being the first side to get sent to Italy’s second division league.
Both teams had failed to register a single win in their previous five matches heading into this fixture. Frosinone with four draws and one loss during that period were sitting at number 18 with 28 points out of 33 games.
Juventus loanee and Giallazzuri top scorer Matías Soule made no mistake from the spot after just 10 minutes to give his side the lead and kill Salernitana’s hopes for survival. It was another loanee, Marco Brescianini who found the back of the net for Frosinone and doubled their lead before setting up Nadir Zortea late in the second half to seal maximum points and send Salernitana to Serie B.
Frosinone put an end to their four game run without a win with a convincing 3-0 triumph at home and their boss Eusebio Di Francesco will be looking forward to avoiding dropping points with just four games left.
Eusebio’s men will take on Empoli next in another relegation battle away from home and they’ll be looking up to players like Soule, Zortea, Cheddira and Milan loanee Brescianini to keep them up.
Frosinone are our team of the week after that convincing win and are now 16th with 31 points, two points above relegation places and seperated by a superior goal difference from 17th placed Empoli who they play next.
