Henry Omolo first minute strike is all Kakamega Homeboyz needed to beat AFC Leopards and leapfrog them to the summit of the Sportpesa League.
Having finished year 2025 on a high, Leopards were expected to attack from the onset and that thought proved costly just inside the first minute when a miscommunication between defender Musa Oundo and goalkeeper Humphrey Katasi cost stheir team.

The mix up gifted possession to Glen Masava, whose fierce strike was parried back into danger by the keeper only for Omollo to react quickly to slot the ball into the net.
Within that confusion, Homeboyz almost doubled their lead three minutes later when Derrick Otanga was to be stopped off his tracks by Samuel Semo having been put through by Masava after the entire home defence had gone to sleep.
Homeboyz were on the ascendency in the earlier proceedings but Leopards reminded them that they were not in for an easy ride when Semo found the back of the next after the hosts had broken loose only for his effort to be flagged offside.

Homeboyz had glorious chances to put the game beyond their hosts in towards the closing stages of the first half but couldn’t turn their efforts into goals. Masava rattled the upright with a ferocious 25-yard strike while Otieno missed a golden chance just before the break but they still went for a breather tails high.
Sensing danger in defeat, Leopards head coach Fred Ambani brought in Kennedy Owino, Victor Otieno and Kelly Madada in a triple substitution at the start of the second half and they nearly paid dividends when Madada tested Masaka with a powerful drive.
Masaka came to Homeboyz’ rescue again when he denied Otieno from close range. Despite the home side dominating proceedings in the better part of the second half, they looked vulnerable each time Homeboyz were on the counter attack with Oliver Majaka seeing his effort blocked by Owino in one of the breaks as they looked to seal the points.

Masaka was to be called to action again in the closing stages when he pulled some good reflex to deny Madada who thought to had restored matters.
Madada then came agonisingly close for Leopards, but Masaka once again rose to the occasion with a superb reflex save to preserve Homeboyz’ lead.
With the win, Homeboyz matched AFC Leopards points tally (24) but have a better goal difference as the title race heats up with more games on Monday.
