The FKF Premier League enters its 31st round this weekend, with defending champions Gor Mahia aiming to secure maximum points against Muhoroni Youth to clinch the title.
Gor Mahia, who were recently held to a goalless draw by KCB, have faced backlash from some fans after the management decided to host the potentially title-sealing game at the Sportpesa Arena in Murang’a.
Muhoroni Youth chairman Moses Adagala criticized this decision, citing the financial burden it imposes on his team in their fight for survival. Adagala hinted that Muhoroni might forfeit the match due to a lack of funds.
“To our fans and friends, I’d like to inform you about our upcoming fixture against Gor Mahia. On Monday, we were told we’d be playing in Kisumu, but the venue was later changed to Murang’a. This is a huge challenge since I can’t raise Kshs. 370,000 in the few remaining days to honor the match in Murang’a. So, we’re focusing on our next home matches. To our fans, worry less because we’ll be in the league next season,” Adagala wrote on social media.
Muhoroni currently sits 17th in the league with 28 points, one point behind Shabana FC, who occupy the relegation/promotion playoff spot.
In other matches, bottom-placed Nzoia Sugar will strive to avoid defeat and delay what seems like an inevitable drop. The Millers have only collected 18 points after 30 rounds, making relegation appear imminent.
Four games will be broadcast live on Azam TV and KBC Channel One. KBC will air the matches between Posta Rangers vs. Kakamega Homeboyz and Kenya Police vs. Tusker FC, both taking place at the Police Sacco Stadium on Saturday, May 18, 2024.
Azam TV will broadcast Kariobangi Sharks vs. Shabana at Dandora Stadium on Saturday at 3 pm, and Talanta FC vs. KCB at the same venue on Monday at 3 pm.
