Extreme Sports CEO and Murang’a SEAL FC Vice Chairman Hussein Mohammed has been elected the new President of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), marking a seismic shift in the leadership of Kenyan football. Hussein clinched the seat in a dramatic re-run, amassing 67 out of 90 votes, while his closest rival Doris Petra managed just one vote, with a similar tally for Barry Otieno.

The initial round saw Mohammed fall short of the required 50% threshold, garnering 42 votes. However, the re-run solidified his victory with an overwhelming majority, showcasing widespread support for his vision of a transformed FKF. Shortly after the results, Petra, the outgoing FKF Vice President, graciously conceded, congratulating Hussein and wishing him success.

Hussein steps into the role vacated by Nick Mwendwa, whose controversial eight-year tenure faced criticism for governance issues and scandals. He will be deputized by former international footballer McDonald Mariga, a move signaling intent to merge administrative expertise with on-field experience.

Hussein’s rise to FKF’s top seat is no coincidence. His two-decade-long commitment to grassroots football through the Super 8 Tournament has left an indelible mark on Kenyan football. Under Extreme Sports, he championed local talent and fostered partnerships that gave young players a platform to shine.

Mohammed’s leadership promises a comprehensive overhaul of Kenyan football. Key pillars of his manifesto include:

  1. Grassroots Empowerment: Expanding football academies and constructing modern stadiums in each county to nurture talent.
  2. National League Revamp: Rebranding the league back to the Kenya Premier League (KPL) to boost its marketability.
  3. Combatting Corruption: Taking a zero-tolerance stance on match-fixing and hooliganism to restore integrity in the sport.

This decisive election marks a turning point for Kenyan football, with Mohammed poised to deliver a bold vision that could propel the country to new heights on the global stage.
