Newly-appointed Harambee Stars head coach Benedict Saul McCarthy alias Benni McCarthy has wasted no time in assembling a backroom team he trusts, opting for an all-South African technical bench as he embarks on his mission to elevate Kenyan football.

Joining him in Nairobi are Vasili Manousakis as Assistant Coach, Moeneeb Josephs as Goalkeepers Trainer, and Pilela Maposa as Performance Analyst. All three have signed two-year contracts, aligning with McCarthy’s tenure, which runs until the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

“Alongside him, we welcome Vasili Manousakis as Assistant Coach, Moeneeb Josephs as Goalkeepers Coach, and Pilela Maposa as Performance Analyst. This team brings a wealth of expertise, and we believe they will instill tactical discipline, structure, and a winning mentality as we prepare for upcoming competitions,” FKF President Hussein Mohammed said.

McCarthy has previously worked with Manousakis, Josephs, and Maposa during his time at AmaZulu, where they guided the club to a historic CAF Champions League qualification. Their familiarity with each other’s coaching philosophies is expected to bring cohesion and professionalism to Harambee Stars.

“I have studied the talent in this country, and I believe there is immense potential to compete at the highest level. Together with my coaching team, we are committed to building a structured, disciplined, and competitive squad,” said McCarthy.

One of the immediate challenges for Josephs will be addressing Kenya’s goalkeeping inconsistency, with recent coaches alternating between Bryne Omondi, Patrick Matasi, and others. His task will be to establish a reliable No.1 to instill confidence in the team’s defensive setup.

With the technical team now in place, McCarthy and his staff will shift focus to Harambee Stars’ upcoming World Cup qualifiers, with fans eagerly anticipating the impact of this new coaching setup.
