In a decisive move towards maintaining transparency and integrity, the Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has directed its Audit and Governance Committee to investigate serious allegations of breaches within its internal governance and auditing regulations. The investigation is set to be conducted by one of the most respected international law firms or an internationally renowned audit and professional services firm, ensuring an unbiased and thorough examination of the claims.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe emphasized the organization’s unwavering stance against corruption, stating, “There is zero tolerance in CAF for corruption or breaching CAF’s internal governance, audit and transparency regulations or for violating CAF and FIFA Statutes and Regulations. We have committed CAF to adhere to global governance, audit, transparency and ethics best practices and established in 2021, an Internal Governance and Compliance Department in CAF.”

This Internal Governance and Compliance Department was pivotal in bringing the alleged breaches to light. Dr. Motsepe continued, “The current culture in CAF of implementing and adhering to global governance, audit, transparency, and ethics best practices has resulted in CAF being respected by its sponsors, partners, African Governments, and other African and international stakeholders. We are committed and determined to retain this hard-earned respect.”

The Audit and Governance Committee’s findings and recommendations will be submitted to the CAF Executive Committee (EXCO), which will promptly address any identified improper conduct. Dr. Motsepe said, “The CAF EXCO will discuss the Report and recommendations of the Audit and Governance Committee and appropriate action will immediately be taken if the Audit and Governance Committee identifies improper conduct or behavior.”

The CAF Audit and Governance Committee is composed of distinguished members: Justice Petrus Damaseb, who serves as the Chair, Mr. Happi Dieudoné, the Vice Chairman of the CAF Governance Committee, Mr. Mohammed Zaazi, Chairman of the CAF Audit and Compliance Committee, and Mr. Mouhamed Nour-Dine Assindoh, Vice Chairman of the same committee.

This robust panel underscores CAF’s commitment to rigorous oversight and ethical governance. Justice Petrus Damaseb, a highly respected figure, leads the committee that will navigate this critical inquiry.
