AFC Leopards hit Nairobi United to reclaim top spot

AFC Leopards went back to the summit of the Sportpesa League after overcoming Nairobi United 2-0 in a clash staged at Nyayo Stadium on Wednesday 7, January 2026.

With Leopards losing against Homeboyz and United overcoming Shabana in their last games, it was never going to be easy for both sides more so for the latter who had reportedly lost coach Nicholas Muyoti.

There has been reports that United’s technical bench had their own disagreements prior to the game and they didn’t do themselves any favours to fuel those rumours when they were to score in their own goal just after 19 minutes. Victor Otieno’s corner kick bounced off Karamor’s back and to his own net for the opening goal of the match.

While the goal was the only strike in the first half, Leopards doubled their lead 20 minutes from time when Kelly Madada doubled their lead after Samuel Ssenyonjo cut inside the box, before setting up the youngster to toe-poke past Ernest Mohammed in the Naibois goal.

The win, Leopards seventh this season, took them a point above arch-rivals Gor Mahia on 27 points, while Naibois, with the loss, remained ninth with 19 points.

The game also saw the introduction of midfielder Roy Okal who was a midseason acquisition from league rivals Sofapaka FC.
